‘Thresholds’ is the result of a collaboration between Irish duo Saso and Irish pianist and composer Kevin Corcoran.
The inspiration for ‘Thresholds’ came from recent life events involving loss and change. The music uses piano, strings and electronic arrangements to convey this inspiration, taking influence from the neo-classical music of artists and producers like Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Jon Hopkins.
Saso enlisted musician and composer Kevin Corcoran to collaborate on this record, having worked with him on their last album ‘Mysterium’. Their concept was to create a sonic landscape that would reflect the cycle of life and the journey to death, and then allow Kevin to explore and expand upon this landscape with piano, strings and synth arrangements. Kevin brought a new colour of sound and interpretation to the music and the work evolved into a joint venture of reflection and expression.
The result is a contemplative and meditative work which is reflective in nature. The aim is to draw the listener in; to immerse them in a sonic experience which allows thoughts and emotions the space to appear and release.
The focus tracks for the album are ‘Elements’ and ‘Absense’.
‘Elements’ is a powerful and emotive piece that grows from solo piano to a full and rich texture of orchestral strings and warm synth layers.
‘Absense’ is a meditative and haunting piece for solo piano.
