Artist/Film Scoring Showreel
I am a composer, producer, session musician and songwriter. As an artist I have released two studio albums and two EPs. As a composer, I have produced the soundtracks to five short films, a video game and have written the music for a musical that launched in Dublin on the 10/05/22. As a session musician I have toured the world extensively with some wonderful artists and bands (Villagers, Jake Clemons, Saint Sister, Æ Mak to name a few) and played on some wonderful albums. Most notably, I played piano and keyboards and arranged and produced strings for ‘Fever Dreams’, the latest Villagers album.
The piano is a fundamental part of my creative process. I have developed a unique playing style which has shaped the way I approach my writing and the piano features heavily in lots of my music. I have a first class honours bachelors degree in contemporary classical composition and my orchestration and synthestration abilities feed into my music along with my love of synthesizers and sound design. I am fascinated by sound production and relish the process of crafting a unique sound world that perfectly elevates the emotional vision of a project. I also sing, play bodhrán and some guitar.
In the absence of touring throughout the pandemic, I started working in the sync licensing industry, specifically focusing on submitting music to production music libraries which pushed me to explore new areas of composition and production. I also started a weekly video series titled ‘Soft Set Sundays’ in which I improvised at the piano and went on to release 10 of these improvisations as an album ‘Soft Set Sundays, Vol. 1’.
In anticipation of my future artist releases, I undertook an intense digital marketing course last year and have developed a very involved collection of strategies that I have started to employ with my releases.
I was intrigued to learn of Folding Waves and have been very impressed by the work I have seen. I have loved my experiences producing music and sound for visual media over the last few years. It has been almost entirely a solo venture which has pushed me to become proficient in each stage of the production process, from ideation to recording/production to mixing to mastering but in my core I truly love collaboration so the idea of working with and learning from others in this field is very exciting. I take feedback very well, it is often one of my favourite parts of scoring; receiving feedback from the director and finding my way into interpreting their feelings.
While my roots are in performance and acoustic instrumentation and arrangement, I have a deep love for any sound production and sound design and relish any opportunity to explore these realms. In fact, all of my favourite scores are those that blend music and sound design and I was excited to see that this is the exact world that Folding Waves sits in. I live in Dublin and have a studio on the quays which I do most of my work from but am also very curious to learn more about the Folding Waves studio.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
